Today’s careers are more fluid than ever before. From the earliest stages of your professional life, you must make deliberate choices that are consistent with your own goals, aspirations, and authentic self in order to forge a successful and satisfying career path.
Managing Your Career Development, a seven-session virtual program offered via HBX Live, is designed around the belief that practice is the first step towards transformation. Each session will put you in the shoes of a case protagonist facing a traditional career choice or dilemma. Together with a cohort of peers from around the world, you will practice addressing that choice, first in the case protagonist’s shoes and then, ultimately, in your own.
Managing Your Career Development will provide you with:
Find answers to your career questions, like how do I translate my passion into a career vision? Or how can I step up to a managerial role?
Learn how to identify and secure positions that are satisfying and influential.
Develop the skills to negotiate new opportunities, prototype your career, and effectively solicit feedback through interactive exercises, HBS background materials, and dynamic discussions with the other members of your cohort.
Your cohort will provide counsel, networking opportunities, and mentorship long past the conclusion of the program.
Use the lens of others’ experiences to help you examine your own path and decide what your next step will be.
Modeled on HBS’s highly successful case method pedagogy and on-campus experience, Managing Your Career Development brings together some of Harvard Business School’s most engaging faculty to teach a series of seven virtual sessions via the HBX Live virtual classroom. As is true in Harvard Business School’s physical classrooms, you will be part of a dedicated cohort. You will get to know the other individuals in your cohort well over seven sessions, and your ability to build supportive and lasting relationships with them will be a key part of your experience.
With the exception of an extended first session, each class session will last for 90 minutes. Participants should also expect to spend about an hour preparing for each class. The estimated total time commitment for the program is approximately 20 hours. Attendance at all sessions at designated times is expected.
Participants in Managing Your Career Development are eligible for a Certificate of Participation from HBX and Harvard Business School. To earn the certificate, participants must prepare for and attend all seven sessions as the learning experience is dependent on a highly engaged cohort.
