Introduction

Are you looking for strategies and techniques to improve your case-based online course? If so, register now for Teaching with Cases Online. As is true with the case method, you will learn as much from your fellow participants as you will from the seminar facilitators. Attendees will participate in synchronous and asynchronous activities over 3 weeks.

Seminar Objectives:

  • Learn multiple case discussion facilitation and debrief approaches for both asynchronous and synchronous environments
  • Experience these approaches as both students and instructors
  • Review assessment strategies tailored to these multiple approaches

Participate in discussion boards, small group work, and synchronous class sessions in which you debrief what you’ve read and present your group work. The goal is to help online instructors better understand how to devise a teaching plan for delivering a participant-centered course online.

Note: This seminar is limited to teaching faculty at degree-granting colleges and universities.

Bill Schiano

Bill Schiano

Professor of Computer Information Systems at Bentley University

Bill Schiano is Professor of Computer Information Systems at Bentley University. He teaches both managerial and technical courses exclusively using discussion and case method, and has done so in purely online and hybrid formats. Professor Schiano is an avid experimenter with technology that supports case teaching.  His recently-published book, Teaching with Cases: A Practical Guide, focuses on advice that can be easily implemented.  Bill regularly facilitates the face-to-face Case Method Teaching Seminar offered by Harvard Business Publishing, in addition to the web-based seminar, Teaching with Cases Online.

Professor Schiano has an AB in Economics from Williams College and a Doctorate in Information Systems from Harvard Business School.
