Introduction

Leaders often underestimate the power they have to make change. By paying attention to our personal growth, we can deepen our impact as leaders.

In this module, you will explore how adults continue to evolve, applying self-development practice to become more intentional about your growth as an individual and as a leader. You will learn and apply practices such as deep listening and testing assumptions to improve professional relationships, diagnose challenges, achieve personal leadership goals, and respond successfully to the complex demands of education leadership.

 

By completing this program, you will be able to:

  • Apply effective tools and practices to further your development in your workplace

 

The Certificate in Advanced Education Leadership (CAEL) provides education leaders with the skills to create transformational, system-level change. Completion of this module can be applied towards the CAEL certificate.

Deborah Helsing

Lecturer on Education

Deborah Helsing, Ed.D., is a lecturer on education, teaching Adult Development, Immunity to change and co-teaching Practicing Leadership Inside and Out. She also provides individualized executive coaching to high potential educational leaders as part of the Doctor of Educational Leadership (Ed.L.D.) program. In addition to her faculty appointment at HGSE, Helsing is a co-director at Minds at Work, an organization assisting individuals, teams, and organizations to make personal and collective change. Helsing's publications include co-authoring, An Everyone Culture (2016), Right Weight/Right Mind (2016), and Change Leadership (2006). She holds a B.A. in English from Grinnell College, a master's degree from the University of Michigan, and a doctorate from HGSE.

Lisa Lahey

Lisa Lahey

Associate director of the Change Leadership Group

Lisa Lahey, Ed.D. was most recently the associate director of the Change Leadership Group at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, a national project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to develop greater internal capacity for leading organizational improvement in our nation’s public school districts. She is also founder and co-founder and co-director of Minds At Work, a consulting group that works with senior leaders and teams in corporations, government and non-profits.

She has worked across the educational spectrum, from K-12 to colleges and universities and their boards, as well as with numerous corporations and nonprofit organizations. Lahey is the author of Immunity to Change: How to Overcome it and Unlock the Potential in Yourself and Your Organization with Robert Kegan (2009), and How The Way We Talk Can Change the Way We Work with Robert Kegan (2001). She is also co-author of Change Leadership: A Practical Guide to Transforming Our Schools (2006).
