This course examines the history and aesthetics of electronic music with a focus on popular forms, especially those gathered around dancing and DJs. Our studies of various genres, from disco to dub, hip-hop to house, baile funk to bhangra, situate musical aesthetics in cultural context, with a focus on the creative and social uses of technologies of production, performance, and distribution.
