Course description

This course examines the intersections of race and gender in American film with a special focus on the role of gender in melodramatic fantasies of racial harmony and racial violence. We have two aims in mind to explore the history of these intersections over the past century and to examine what popular culture tells us right now about how we see and understand these intersections in the present.
